The coastal area of the Bijagòs Archipelago is one of Africas most important areas for conservation. It is a marvalous area with a rich biodiversity and culture. This publication provides an overview of the area and its waterbirds.
Description:
The coastal area comprises extensive mudflats, mangrove forests and shallow waters. The group of islands in front of the Guinea-Bissau coast is the largest archipelago of Africa. It is the second most important area for migratory waterbirds in Africa, mostly for waders. The latest survey produced an estimate of 871.750 waders.
This publication provides extensive information about the area and recommendations for conservation measures.
