Fourth in series, the newsletter brings in an update on conservation and management of Loktak Lake, Manipur a Ramsar site and a large freshwater wetland in northeast India. The current issue focuses on water management. It summarizes the various issues related to current water management which is focused on human uses (particularly hydropower generation) ignoring other ecological requirements for wetland functioning.

On 8 November 2007 the People’s Government of Shaoxing City hosted a symposium, organised by Wetlands International, entitled ‘Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People’. The opening sessions were chaired by Chen Kelin, Director of Wetlands International - China, and the technical sessions and discussion by Mike Ounsted, Chair of the Wetlands and Livelihoods Working Group.
This video shows two cases of Demonstration Projects of the Wetlands and Poverty Reduction Project (WPRP) in Zambia and Malawi on how better water management can go hand in hand with poverty reduction. Watch the video online.
The leaflet contains information on the important wetland site of Vinogradovskaya (Faustovskaya) Floodplain in the Moscow region. It covers the aspects of wetland wise use and conservation, and provides practical recommendations on measures to conserve the waterbird habitats in the area. The leaflet is targeted at decision-makers and agricultural managers and will be circulated to all land users in the floodplain and ajacent areas.
The brochure contains information on the internationally important wetland site of Vinogradovskaya (Faustovskaya) Floodplain of the Moskva River, including a map of the area, with the boundary of Moskvoretsky Wildlife Refuge indicated, pictures of water birds that occur at the site, with information on protected species, description of threats to the site's ecological character and recommendations on measures that help to conserve the floodplain biodiversity. This publication is mainly targeted at sport hunters, fishermen and other people involved in outdoor recreation in the Moscow region.
